19 Days Left

12/03/2007

Wow, I can't believe it's December already. This year sure flew by, miserable as it was.

I've got 19 days left until I head up North, and my goal is to get 1 more deal signed up before then. My experience last year, and so far this year, is that the holiday season is a great time to get deals. I'm ready to take full advantage.

I got a zillion calls over the weekend from the handwritten signs I have out. Most of them from people who don't speak English, and think I'm advertising a house for rent. How do you say "rent" in Spanish? Rento? I think I will start writing "NO RENTO" at the bottom of the signs to save myself some time (and to keep from ripping my hair out of my head in frustration). Also, I keep catching myself doing the whole, "If I talk really loud, then maybe they will be able to understand what I'm saying even though they don't speak English" thing. By the end of every "conversation" I am borderline yelling. Then I realize the absurdity of what I'm doing and just feel like an idiot.

Aye yi yi.

As any American traveling abroad knows, all you need to do to communicate is to speak slowly, really loud and and add a vowel or two at the end of key words.

Beautiful language, english.

Funny thing, as I read your post I thought how glad I am that I stumbled upon my new researcher who also happens to speak spanish! Yay! Now all we need to do is get some deals for him to translate for me.

Go get em Steph! Crunch-time!

NingĂșn alquiler. This is the translation for "No Rental". Not for rent is: No para el alquiler.
Hope this helps.

No habla English. That means something doesn't it? I like Taylor's solution to the language barrier!
