wow...this looks like something we'd read from your other friend, stripper-turned-evangelist, Mike Cherwenka. Where do you find these people?
By the way, I've been reading your blog for a month or so and enjoy it! Glad to hear things are looking up for the end of 2007! It's been a hell of a year for all of us!
I'm not too sure what you're so angry about. The guy is really right on about working at home. I think the article points towards having a support system through people interaction as the issue. No one is a lone wolf and if you think you are, that's when you'll begin to see issues personally and professionally. When your not accountable to someone you'll find yourself beginning to battle things others in a work place may not.
I've had an office out of the home and in the home. When the office is in the home, your work is always there and that fine line between leaving work and going home for the day disappears.
If you have a home office, make sure it is in a separate room away from everything else and preferably has a door to shut it away. You'll find yourself relaxing and taking time to take care of yourself.
This guy obviously has a very low opinion of himself and his belief.
Here is piece of advice someone once gave me: Take what works, leave the rest.
If this guy doesn't say/do anything that works for you, leave him/his ideas.
Before someone accuses me of being cold and ungodly, I am referring to information and that alone.
So, if this works for you, take it and make it you own.
Bowmanboy,
Making a blanket statement that having a home based office is unbiblical is what I have an issue with.
I've spent the last year busting my butt in order to be able to work from home and avoid having to go back to what I was doing before (bartending). I was heading down a very dark road in the wrong direction, and the decision to leave that behind and go full time in rei while working from home was the best decision I have ever made.
So, for someone to insinuate that working from home is unbiblical, and that I should "Seek his heart for the time and place he wants you to move into an office" really rubs me the wrong way.
Maybe some people are better off in an office environment, I however, am not one of them. And I don't consider that to be "unbiblical."
My two cents...
I read this guys posts a while ago doing searches for real estate blogs. It made me laugh. My wife and I both have seperate offices in our home and it is extremely extremely extremely had to "turn it off". There are nights that I end up working until 9:00 or so just because it's there. I understand his point there BUT...
To be successful in this business, especially in the beginning, you HAVE to work long days and into the evenings. This shit isn't easy!! I have been involved in real estate for 4 years, with 2007 being my first year full time. It's exhausting and it sure as shit isn't easy. We also have a few other business ventures going so there is a lot of work to be done. Once we get some of this stuff to run itself guess what we are going to do? Take a freakin month off. Away from our offices!
Biblical, unbiblical, not sure, don't care. I know people that are very spiritual... this guy seems very religious. Big difference.

This guy is WAY off...
Last I checked those of us in the flipping homes community are very much involved in the community...
:-)
Steph - that article cracked me up! I have "friends" I never see any more because they attend the mega churches that have movie theaters, sports fields, bowling alleys, reading groups, gymnasiums, swimming pools, cafeterias, etc.
I sometimes ask them "how do you spread the word and good deeds to non-christians, if you never interact with them." Matt Gillogly says, "God wants us in community, Satan wants us isolated." Well I guess this Satan fella is winning!

I've been studying theology one way or another for almost 20 years now. I even logged in a year at a top-notch Catholic university. So, after consulting several sources including the Bible itself, I feel qualified to say "What an idiot."
That is all.
Steph, don't put too much stock into what this guy's opinion is. The article is simply his opinion. He claims it is un biblical to have a home office, but he does not back it up with scripture. I am a Christian, but I do not take other Christians' statements to heart until they can back it up with scripture. He just says it's un biblical. He does not quote a chapter or verse that proves this.
His perspective on life is his own, yet he seems to arrogantly claim that everyone needs to conform to his ideal.
And another thing. We are not isolated, we talk regularly with our "team members", realtors, mortgage brokers, investors, mentors, buyers, sellers, etc. We are very much involved with people daily.
But in his opinion, in order to be on God's side, we need to physically sit in a cubicle in an office building with other people? That doesn't make sense at all.
It just seems like he is offering his humanly opinion, and attempting to justify it via the Bible, yet he didn't quote a single scripture. He is way off.
Steph, just focus on getting your next deal. 27 days left this year!! The clock is ticking! :)
