A Letter to the President

3/8/09

I didn't get much done real estate-wise this weekend, because I was busy composing a letter to the President.

You see, I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, and I've decided that it's a load of crap that I have to pay back my student loans. So, I decided to write a letter to Barack to see if he can do something about this injustice.

I'm not saying these loans shouldn't be paid back (that would be totally irresponsible), I'm just saying I don't think it's fair that I should have to pay them. First of all, I was only 18 when I signed for these loans, and even though I signed my name on the dotted line, and took the money and spent it, I still feel like I was duped by the evil-doer loan officers, who should have done a better job of explaining the details of the loans to me. This is not fair. Also, I DIDN'T EVEN GRADUATE! Why should I have to pay back the loans if I didn't even end up getting my degree? That is totally not fair. What about all those people who did graduate, got good jobs, and now have a bunch of extra money lying around?? Why can't they pay for my loans? So what if they made sacrifices while I was busy blowing all of my loan money on beer and drugs. It's still NOT FAIR!

I think I have a pretty good case for a student loan bailout.

I'm sending the letter off tomorrow, and will keep you all posted as to how it turns out.

Later.

Oh boy, I see you are being phocecious here... There are some idiots out there who won't get the subltey of your sarcasm though.. haha ;p)

p.s. -- Sad thing is, We already have evidence that Obama agrees with your premise. His comments in that last speech about paying for school from the womb to the tomb were pretty clear. How's he going to pay for it? Raising capital gains tax on people like us.

Hi Carl,

I was going to add a "sarcasm alert" to the post, but thought you guys would figure it out on your own. :)

Good luck Steph. I might draw up a letter tomorrow for a bailout for my stupid house flipping adventure. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I paid mine back decades ago. I want a do-over. Lend me back the money, adjusted for inflation, and let me pay it back to you over 40 years at 2 percent. Sounds fair to me.

Hi Steph,

I have a question for you when you first started. You said you went full time after you had done a couple of deals.

Before you had done your first deal did you keep your REI activities quiet or did you tell people you were a Real Estate Investor? (meaning, friends and relatives)

Also how long was the time from when you started part-time till you did your first deal?

Thanks
-Chris

Hi Chris,

I pretty much kept what I was doing to myself. I told a few other people that I knew would be supportive, but other than that, I was quiet about it.

It took me a looooong time to get my first deal. At least 2 years. This was mostly because I was scared, and also was only going at it half-assed. Once I quit my job and went full time, I was forced to give it my all, and that's when I finally started doing deals. I had no other choice.

You are too freakin hysterical!!! If our student loans effected the rest of the world and a ton of OPM(other peoples money) you could be sure that we would be getting bailed out!!! Until then, our hard earned money will go on to bailout the greedy, irresponsible heavy hitters who thought about no one but themselves..... AIG, Wall St, ect........Crazy, crazy world we live in my friend! The bad get rewarded and the good get punished... peace

Steph, Steph, Steph..... Just when things were going so well and I was sure you were nothing short of perfect in every way, you go and bash my boy Barack!!! As much as I appreciate everything you have taught me thus far, I would hate to think that I have been learning everything I know about REO's this entire time from a, dare I say it, REPUBLICAN?! Please Steph, say it ain't so!!!!!!!!!!

Joe, Joe, Joe...

And here I thought you were saving your first comment for when you got your first REO wholesaled. :(

You break my heart, Mr. Peezy.

LOL, I guess we are even then. But I promise I will reserve my third comment solely for that occasion.

I must admit that was pretty funny Steph. If I hadn't paid my student loan off years ago I'd just up board with you.

All of these bail-outs are pissing me off (and I'm an Obama supporter. I'm just waiting for him to do something that I really support like get rid of DOMA or Don't Ask, Don't Tell)

Other than that......all of these bail-outs for everybody and their mothers except me and my mother are really irritating me.

Now you got my wheels spinning....what could I ask to be bailed out for?? I do have a lot of debt that I've accumulated since buying my new house with Kathy. Hmmmmmm that's an idea.

It was nice to read your posts again Steph! I'm gonna have to make a habit of it again.
